Adobe Launches 'Open Screen Project' for familiarizing Flash in Mobiles

Currently, Flash has been installed on 98 percent of all internet-enabled desktop PCs throughout the world, said the company. Adobe insisted that by taking off the licensing fees for embedding, the company will drive adoption of Flash features in mobile and other consumer areas such as television. It simply means that Flash features can be easily available on mobile devices for free of charge.

In a press release, listed on its official website, Adobe reveals that through this project the company is striving to bring together all well-known mobile device manufacturers, content developers and telecommunications sources such as including Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Cisco, Samsung, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, Toshiba, Verizon Wireless, ARM, Intel, NBC, MTV and the BBC. Furthermore, the company adds that the goal is to provide a common platform for rich web and on-demand video development across a variety of devices.

Andrew Shorten, platform evangelist for Adobe Systems UK, said: "The original publication of the SWF [Shockwave Flash] specification has fostered a vibrant ecosystem of companies and developers using Adobe Flash technology across the UK and around the world. Today's announcement will allow these partners to use the file format for any purpose, including the ability to play back SWF and build a consistent application runtime for use across desktops and devices."

To strengthen its claim, Adobe is expected to publish a variety of application programming interfaces (APIs) and protocols related to flash as an extension to the Open Source Project alliance.
